What are tokens and how are they used?

Tokens are the unit of AI processing. Each message you send and each response you receive uses tokens. On average, a conversation exchange uses about 4,500 tokens. The token count shown on each plan represents your monthly allowance. Generating quizzes, slides, and images also consume tokens from your pool.

Can I upgrade or downgrade at any time?

Yes! You can upgrade your plan at any time and the change takes effect immediately. When you downgrade, the change takes effect at the end of your current billing period. No penalty fees, ever. Your data and conversation history are always preserved.

What happens when I run out of tokens?

When you reach your monthly token limit, AI features will be paused until the next billing period or you upgrade to a higher plan. You'll receive alerts at 75% and 90% usage. Your data, conversation history, quizzes, and documents are always preserved and accessible.

What is the difference between Learner and Observer plans?

Learner plans (Free, Basic, Pro) are for students who use AI tutoring directly — chatting, generating quizzes, creating slides, etc. Observer plans (Guardian, Coach) are for parents and teachers who want to monitor and support learners with shared token pools and analytics dashboards.

Is there a free trial for paid plans?

Our Free plan is permanently free — no time limit, no credit card required. It's the best way to try Private Coach. When you're ready for more features and higher token limits, upgrade to Basic or Pro. You can cancel paid plans at any time.

How does the Guardian/Coach shared token pool work?

Observer plans provide a shared token pool that all linked learners draw from. For example, a Guardian with 2M tokens and 3 linked learners means those learners collectively share the 2M token pool. The observer's analytics dashboard shows how each learner is using tokens.
